I’m using Nancy’s basic instructions to estimate the number of stitches and needle size for my hat.

CO 90 stitches using my CC onto a size 6 needle, knit one garter ridge. I’m going to knit the medallion pattern from the Hashtag Shawl; knit to the pattern for 2”, change to size 6 needles and complete the motif. Continue in garter ridges, alternating colors for a total of 6”. Start the decrease section, using a star pattern (divide by 5), 18 stitches in each section. I worked in garter ridges for 6 decreases (decrease every other row). Then decreased every row in stockinette stitch in CC til 2 stitches remained in each section, pulled yarn thru and tied off.
I think it turned out great! Will get it blocked and take some pictures!
