New Challenge - 13Mar2016

My project is based on the Thor pattern but I intend to attempt a few changes to the construction of the doll body. Ideally I want the head and the body to be one piece, rather than having to stitch them together. If I can get the legs to be directly attached too that would also be grand. We’ll see whether I’m successful. :)

The resulting doll will look like my character from EVE Online. See the blog post for more info.

Edit: Trying to do the doll as one piece can be done but I didn’t like how the body shape was turning out. Back to following the pattern!

Progress - 19Mar2016

Not bad for a few days’ worth of work. Unfortunately I had to do the torso twice. The pattern didn’t make it clear at first that the body is done from the bottom up, so I started with the “shirt” color when I should have started with the “pant” color. It wasn’t until I was reading through the pattern author’s Tumblr that I happened to come across a remark about how to put the body and head together that I realized I had the colors backward.

My doll needs green eyes, which are on order, so the body isn’t actually put together yet. Just legs, arms, jacket, and hair to do.

Not sure about the overall shape but we’ll see how it goes!

Assembly - 24Mar2016

Have started putting the body together. The pattern is lacking in details regarding approximately where the limbs should be attached. Sure it’s a body and there are only so many places the legs and arms can go but some guidance on this to help achieve the desired appearance would be good.

Finished! - 30Apr2016

I’m finally done. The hair gave me a lot of trouble but by looking at a lot of tutorials I managed to devise a way to get it done the way I wanted.

In the end, reasonably happy with how it came out but I think for this particular project I will probably want to use another pattern that allows for a bit more detail and less assembly.
