Notes

My friend Leanne was inspired to design this shawl after attending DD2’s wedding. The bouquets included several varieties of succulent plants including Bells of Ireland (the tall pointy light green ones). Since the couple was also planning their honeymoon in the Emerald Isle, the pattern name was quite appropriate.

Leanne introduced this as an MKAL, and not knowing anything about it, my first project used a poor yarn choice. After it was revealed I decided to reknit the pattern in a gorgeous handspun made by my other friend, Heather. Life got in the way and into the WIP bin this went. In keeping with my new tradition of finishing a WIP for every new project completed, it was time to revisit what promises to be a lovely marriage of yarn and design. I should have it finished well in time for Erin’s birthday in May. <3

My first UFO WIP of 2018!

Finished the beaded section last night. I have been using a method I improvised with fishing line, but I recently purchased a beading tool from Stunning String Studio that I wanted to try out. I am pleased to say that the tool works very well! I was able to use it with about 95% of the 8/0 glass beads I bought for this project. Where the bead hole was too small or the yarn too thick, I just relied on my trusty fishing line!

Finally blocked this today. What a chore! I didn’t want to pin the bells as some have done, choosing rather to pin between the bells and finger block them into place. I washed the shawl and wet blocked it, but by the time I got everything pinned, it was fairly dry, so I spray misted the bells and finger-set them again, just in case.
