I joined the WAL for a dress for an American Girl Doll for February 2013…because I love weaving squares on the Weavette loom. I borrowed Elizabeth and planned the dress.
I decided to have “texture” on the bodice and sleeves and at the hem of the dress. For the bodice I used the “sunken diamond” pattern and for the bottom tier of squares I wove 10 rows of plain weave and ended with an “U3, O1” pattern.
The pattern for the WAL was provided by Hazel Rose Looms. The original pattern used 4 squares for the bodice, 5 squares for top of skirt and 7 for the bottom of the skirt. Hazel suggested we may wish a fuller look, so I made the skirt layers of 6 and 8 squares.
The yarn is from my stash and is hand-painted in shades of teal…I think that the patterning may have showed up better with a solid color yarn.
I added some “interest” with two felt buttons, threaded with ribbon. I may remove it because it does hide the “U3, O1” pattern that I repeated in the triangle insert.
