Notes

So we’re up on Orkney, the temperature is low and the strong winds are making it feel below freezing….. and DH has neglected to bring any of his hats.

So a quick trip into Kirkwall produced a skein of undyed North Ronaldsay wool and my Rav library produced the pattern.

I chose a K2P2 rib for the brim and then the Fisherman’s Rib for the body and top of the hat. I like this pattern because it makes it very easy to knit customised hats and I chose stitches that would give a nice thick, warm, fabric.

Very straightforward knit and we were able to brave the winds today with him having a warm head. Actually his head was warmer than mine in my rather gorgeous and very stylish new slouchy hat - which didn’t do much for keeping the wind out.

I’ve photographed the hat on a traditional Orkney chair.
