Knitting this for Nature’s Shades along with KnitBritish Group
Using the Rams & Yowes design to make a double layer scarf. So knitting in the round with the circumference for the blanket but omitting the steek stitches. Starting with a stocking stitch version of the garter stitch border, doing 5 rows in each colour.
Starting on a sad day because we had to have our very elderly Boreray ewe, Millie, put down. She would have been 15 years old this year and she’s been happy and active so far in the girl’s flock with a bit of extra feeding and access to shelter, even though it was getting difficult to prevent her losing weight. But after looking ‘not right’ yesterday and obviously unwell today the vet was called and the decision was made that it wasn’t fair to her to try and keep her going. So she was quietly put to sleep. Her fleece was the more unusual darker colour for Borerays and many of the colours in her fleece are those in the 9 colours of the Shetland Supreme.
This scarf will be a reminder of a lovely old girl who had a long and happy life.

I’ve been busy knitting but there has been a hold up with the scarf - on 20 Feb I’d nearly finished the round sheep section and was faced with the undeniable fact that the scarf was going to be too wide.
So that knitting has been put to one side since, when it’s had the 5 rows in each colour added to the top to match the bottom, it will make a wonderful cushion.
And I cast on again for the scarf, having done the calculations and found that 72 stitches each side would work well for the repeats of the rams and yows pattern and give a good scarf width - and I’ve been knitting at every opportunity to attempt to finish it in time for Edinburgh Yarn Festival. That will be a miracle, but I’m going to push on and try.
And as you can see from the photo I’ve added in a section from another pattern from Sheep Mittens - so now I have a ‘whole’ Millie on my scarf. Well two of her since it’s going to be symmetrical.

After a marathon of stranded knitting the main section of the scarf is finished. Just a little lace needed to finish off each end. If I get that done tonight then I can steam block it tomorrow morning and have it finished to take to Edinburgh Yarn Festival with me :-)

Finally finished! Quick steam block so I can take it with me to Edinburgh, but I’ll do a proper wet block when I’m back. The Old Shale lace at each end finishes it off nicely.
