Received the package today in the mail. Pattern is part of Donna Druchunas’s Folktales in Lithuania subscription yarn club for 2021. This is the 2nd project. the pattern is not yet on Ravelry.

An amber necklace was included. Since I’d like a longer necklace, the colors more mixed up, as well as some amber for earrings, I’m going to restring it on fine metallic flex wire. Some fine glass beads will be added between each amber bead.

The swatch is to experiment with shaping the selvedges to appear more fluid rather than having straight edges which to me look kind of chopped off.

After more swatching, have decided to cast on for 12 Mermaid Tails across, but with fewer sts at the outer edges of the first and last ones, so a (K3, yo) edging can be worked for a gentle shaping. The shawlette should be more of a trapezoid with tapered edges rather than a crescent with chopped-off ends.

Cast on and made 2 ridges of GS before starting the Mermaid Tails. Next, there will be more ridges of GS before starting the short rows for the crescent shaping and eyelet patt. Since JoanMVA ended up with about 35 grams of yarn leftover, I expect that I can manage to end the top with a rep of Mermaid Tails.

Math ahead! I’ll need to figure out how many sts will be needed for the top to get full width reps of Mermaid Tails across.
