My FIL Con finally came up with an answer to what would you like for whatever gift-giving occasion: a V-neck pullover vest. Personally, I’m surprised a 90-year-old wants a pullover, but that’s what he wants, and he is still flexible enough to deal with it. Oh, and it has to be machine-washable and -dryable, which only makes sense for a man living alone.
Since I did not want to run allover looking for yarn, or take a chance on ordering yarn, I went to the local JoAnn’s and bought 4 skeins of Heartland, then went back and bought one more, just in case, but I didn’t need it. Personally, I’d prefer wool, but that would not be practical. However, I did not find this yarn very pleasurable to knit because it’s slippery and tends to be splitty. I only gave it 3 stars because, hey, I used it and completed the project, but really I would not recommend it.
For my own pleasure, I chose Sailor’s Rib. The ribbing at the bottom is K1/P1/K2/P1, ending K1 to flow smoothly into the Sailor’s Rib pattern, and ribbing around the neckline and armholes is K1/P1 rib. I don’t often knit V-neck pullovers - usually I make V-neck cardigan vests for myself, so I learned that the V-neck should have been started sooner by at least an inch. The neckband depth at the bottom point is 2” which I did not anticipate.
