01/01/2010: First project of the new year…
01/05/2010: Finished my first project of the year! Woot!
My variant to work with this yarn.
Using size 6 needles, cast on 84 stitches (as the original states).
Place marker and join yarn, being careful not to twist.
Knit 2x2 ribbing in the round for 6 inches (for this particular wooly pulley, I only ribbed until I ran out of the brown yarn).
At the join marker, switch to size 8 needles and knit 34 stitches in ribbing.
Place marker.
Cast on 50 new stitches and rejoin.
Every round: K2, P2, K to 4 before 2nd marker, P2, K the rest. Continue for 4 inches.
Crown decrease:
Round 1: K all stitches, placing markers after every 12th stitch
Round 2: S1, K1, PSSO, K to marker (repeat)
Round 3: K all stitches
Round 4: S1, K1, PSSO, K to marker (repeat)
Round 5: K all stitches
Round 6: S1, K1, PSSO, K to marker (repeat)
Round 7: K all stitches
Round 8: S1, K1, PSSO, K to marker (repeat)
Round 9: K all stitches, removing all markers except the original marker. Move original marker one stitch to the left by removing the marker, slipping one stitch from the left needle to the right, place the marker then slip the stitch back to the left hand needle.
Round 10: K7, K2tog (repeat)
This should align with the slipped stitches from above, creating a visibly curving line of stitches.
Round 11: K6, K2Tog (repeat)
Round 12: K5, K2Tog (repeat) At the end of this round move your marker one stitch to the right.
Switch to size 8 dpns when necessary. You will have to move stitches between needles when switching the decrease direction.
Round 13: S1, K1, PSSO, K3 (repeat)
Round 14: S1, K1, PSSO, K2 (repeat)
Round 14: S1, K1, PSSO, K1 (repeat)
Round 14: S1, K1, PSSO, K1 (repeat)
Round 15: S1, K1, PSSO (repeat)
Leaving a reasonably long end, cut yarn, pull end through remaining stitches and weave in securely.
Face Ribbing:
Returning to the stitches on the size 6 needle, pick up 50 stitches.
Knit 1 round in 2x2 ribbing…to be continued.
I’ll write up how to miter the corners after I figure out a better method. My process has improved with each successive version, but I’m still not crazy about it yet.
I’ll tinker with the process again on #4, and post those results.
