UPDATE: 2 years later (photos 8-10) and still one of my favourite jumpers, and still looking great. Fabulous wool.

Love the colour of this wool and it’s perfect for this project. A great pattern, with good attention to detail and spot-on sizing.

Needed the full meterage suggested plus maybe 50m more. Antje: glad I bought that extra ball!

MODS: very few.
I knitted size M1 and thought I had made an error, but found the same thing when I made this jumper again and also another Raveller had the same problem, though I’m not sure with which size. At the start of the pattern when you start to knit the front section it feels like the pattern is off-kilter. So each of the other 3 sections will start with e.g. a knit stitch but the front section starts with a purl. Then when you finish the raglan increases the pattern doesn’t follow from the front to the other sections. I fixed this by 1) starting from the beginning with row 4 of the pattern and 2) increasing one stitch at either side of the front section when I had finished the raglan increases. The increased stitch allows the stitch pattern to flow, and is hidden under the arm, so it made no difference to the overall look of the jumper. this wee mistake in the pattern didn’t stop me from kitting it twice, and apart from this the pattern is great, with good attention to detail.

Knitted the arms when I came to them, always fun because the jumper appears on your needles as if by magic. Knitted the collar from the inside, so that I could do the RS pattern, which means knitting every 3rd row rather than purling. All I did was pick up the stitches as instructed, then turned my work so I was knitting up from the inside. It left a small hole on the inside collar where I’d turned the work but that was right beside my yarn end, so sewed the hole up when weaving in the ends and you can’t see it at all.

Made the arms a bit longer, and matched the body length to the arms which is about the right proportion for this jumper. Turned the cuff inside and sewed in place. Love it!

Went back to this and unpicked the bottom cast off, added a hem in stocking stitch and sewed that front and back to stop the bottom of this jumper curling. My hem was 10 rows deep along the length but with 8 stitches at either side knitted to 20 rows, looks a bit like a long, upside-down staple, partly because I thought I might run out of wool and partly because I wanted the suggestion of that shape on the outside once it was sewn in place. Have tried to show this in the photos, think it’s worked well and certainly not getting any curling at all despite almost constant wear at the moment!

Photos at Ganavan Sands near Oban in Scotland. Should also say that the photos show the jumper after it’s been worn all day every day for about a week, took it on holiday and was even using it over my jammies in the morning. The wool from New Lanark is lovely and hard-wearing, a real workhorse yarn, love it and isn’t the colour just like the Scottish sea in February.

Thank you Ravelry for using my jumper on the pattern page - my daughter Kirsty (12) is delighted because she took the photos.
