Oops I think I should have left my flowers squares the way they were: too big. I changed the needle size to make them smaller. Now I’m chrocheting the shell strip and my flowersquares have turned into rectangles. If I reshape them, the strip turns into a wavy sea. Oops.
I think my other squares will turn into rectangles now as well.
I found a new way to sew the blocks together: a sort of weaving method found in one of Jan Eaton’s books. But I pulled the thread underneath the whole stitch/v.

Second attempt. This time using 7 different wibra saskia colours: white-red-light pink-dark pink-green-turquoise and purple.
I intend to make it larger by adding a second set in dots in opposite colours and maybe a second set of granny squares. It’s for my 7 yo daughter who chose the colours herself. I want it to be a small bedspread. Her bed is 90cm by 200/220cm.
It’s difficult to capture the true colours.
One square is appr. 16 cm2
My first dot looks a bit like a square as you can see in the pictures. They are very dark so I hope you can see what I mean. I don’t understand why. The small circle was crocheted loose enough I think, maybe the border was too tight. But if I use a larger hook for the border I think it will start to ‘curl’.
In the first round of the light pink where the borders are created, I crocheted in the loop whereas in the other two pink rounds I crocheted underneath the loop to form the borders.

First granny done, I like the way the colours look together but it’s very open. Using a smaller hook doesn’t necessarily result in a more closed structure.
Luckily the granny square has the same size as the first dot square.

All the dots are done. I discovered that I made a mistake in the last round of the border. I crocheted sc’s but I should have crocheted dc’s. I corrected my mistakes and now the squares are a bit larger and the dots look more like dots.
I must confess that I think that the colours are not vibrant enough for my taste but I’m very curious how the endresult will be.
