Notes

Used Zings for swatch; for project use cubix or wood — blocked is 19.5/4”, so changing needle material will be sufficient. (Swatch was for colors as much as sizing…)

21 Oct — Finished the knitting. Final numbers to follow, as well as pix when the light’s better. (and I’ve vacuumed the rug….). all yarns are fingering weight, but not the same base; kit contained 2 20g minis of each color.

Midnite, 20 Oct — As expected, did not finish by the deadline. cry Had gotten through Plateaus + Valleys in Clue 6 by midnite. Will finish knitting tomorrow, but may not block until, oh, Wednesday. An attack of other hobbies and a new job took up a lot of knitting time. OTOH, I went to a really good concert last night, and have sorted out two themed costumes for the upcoming Halloween concerts….

18 Oct — Finished first corner of Clue 6. Used C2 to finish the corner because I like it better. smile

16 Oct — finished Clue 5. won yarn chicken for C7! (less than half a meter left). (I have another mini skein, but it’s not wound yet and I didn’t want to stop and do that.)

15 Oct — finished first corner of Clue 5. Deployed second 20g skein of red C6, 1g left of first ball of green C7. Knitting time greatly impacted by new job which makes the cat more demanding (if I try to knit when she doesn’t want me to, she’ll bite the needle or the yarn). Am very unlikely to finish by Thursday, especially since I’ve got a concert to usher Wednesday evening.

10 Oct -- deployed second 20 g ball of C1 on first Garter Row of Clue 5

9 Oct — finished Clue 4! Modified rocky road and the mosaic. Pix in the AM when there’s light and the fur-box is sleeping somewhere else….

4 Oct — still trudging along on Clue 4. Woefully slow on this one due to an onslaught of real life taking most of my knitting time for the week. I will not have this Clue finished before Clue 6 comes out

27 Sept — deployed second 20g skein of C3 in last row of garter eyelets.

25 Sept — finished Clue 3, finally. Three rounds of reknitting (1: wildflowers, 2:chain in stockinette, 3:chain in garter). Could have centered the chain better, but didn’t realize the “problem” until the third set, and didn’t want to frog and re-knit again. OTOH, the yarn is holding up great to all that frogging.

22 Sept — have replaced “wildflowers” with a modified chain mosaic pattern. Current plan is to use a two-color variant of the geode stitch for “rocky roads”.

20 Sept -- More changes imminent. Have paused further knitting until I see Clue 4. There are just too many “things” going on in this wrap — mosaic and lace and texture and colors and loopy stitches, etc — to be something I’ll be happy with when it’s done. I’ll be much happier if I replace the loopy stitches with something more geometric — maybe mosaic, maybe a slip stitch stripe…..

17 Sept — deployed second mini of magenta (C5) with three rows to go in Geode section.

11 Sept — finished Clue 2. progress slowed by a lap-cat who doesn’t like sharing.

6 Sept — replacements from Space Cadet arrived today. Perfect!!! wound and ready for Clue 2.

3 Sept — more changes. did the CC rows in the brown, started the CC rows in the brick, then actually looked at it and frogged back to the MC before the brown. Have swapped in the original “magenta” which is much more of a “black cherry” than magenta. The brown looked dry and dusty, and the black cherry looks much better when knitted. Finished Clue 1 in the evening. photos in the morning when the light is better.

1 Sept — got an email from SpaceCadet today saying that she’d popped a green and a magenta into the mail for me. (ooooh! not expected, but a nice touch.) Rather than waiting for the post on Tuesday to finish Clue 1, will re-arrange my random order. Swapping magenta and brown. (Who knows, I may stick with the MollyGirl & Plucky, but I feel I should at least see what SpaceCadet is offering. The biggest problem I have when crossing the indie-dyer streams is the color undertones due to water chemistry and the actual dyes; and that’s often not apparent until after things are knitted up. If I was doing something completely from stash I wouldn’t be concerned because they’d all be different, but throwing in just one or two from different dyers can sometimes be noticeable.)

Currently swatching, but I think the CCs are just too dark & murky to work with the Sliver. Maybe a darker grey from stash would work better. Things look better in the swatch, but I’m still not sold on the CCs.

Emailed Stephanie at Space Cadet, and she agreed that the set I got was just “not right”. She suggested a brighter green and a brighter magenta, so I went stash diving. slightly_smiling_face Much better. The magenta I found first might be a bit too close to the purple, but I have other choices, including one with some sparkle.

After spending far too long dithering about color order, I’m going to go “random”, fsvo. as long as the red & brick or the purple & magenta (a ONO from MollyGirl) don’t wind up next to each other, color order will be determined by a random number generator.

color order (via random.org Lists)
purple
blue
magenta brown Black cherry
brick
brown magenta
red
green

construction notes:
Pinhole cast on from TinCanKnits (no crochet hook involved) because that’s my preferred center cast-on; using bamboo dpns because that’s what I have. Cast on to a single needle, then slipped stitches to other needles. (probably could have worked Row 1 onto separate needles, but didn’t think of that.) Did kfb for increases on first row.
