Notes

The Potato Sack Slide might be my favorite carnival ride, and who doesn’t like getting some cotton candy from the fair? So, with the help of my friends, I came up with a tasty sounding flavor combo based on my colors.

My dearly departed grandfather, in his last 2-3 years, until he didn’t recognize me anymore (thought I was my step-dad’s girlfriend once, and that my mom was his wife and was leaving him for my stepdad…who already had a girlfriend…), would sing, “knit 1, purl 2…knit 1, purl 2” from the old song with those lyrics, every time I walked into the room. He wasn’t terribly free with expressing his love and emotions, but he cared a great deal, and I think singing “k1, p2” was his way of saying much more than just “hello.”

Technical feedback

It could just be the way I knit, but my garter tab pulls in quite severely. Not sure how people make perfect garter tabs…bigger needles? I dunno, this is my first one. Also, my garter edge folds pretty determinedly to the WS. I have no idea why, perhaps the RS needs a purl st immediately adjacent to the border? Just some thoughts. :D

I slipped all my sts purlwise.

Overall Review

This is a fun shawl to wear. I’m VERY pleased with my yarn choice. Wrapped it double around my face and tucked it into my bike helmet, and biked INTO THE WIND on a 30 degree day (so, like 19 windchill), not the coldest, but the yarns actually kept me decently comfortable. They are only 20% mohair (?) and the gray is 50% merino, the wind cuts through, so for deep winter, I might need something with a bit more wool, but for my January shawl, I luuurrrrve it!!
