Got bored, and want to knit something that doesn’t have to fit anyone (ie a cardigan), doesn’t need a mate (socks), and has fun and easy to remember repeats. No intended recipient of this, but we have another work event coming up with a silent auction, and the two shawls I donated last year brought in about a third of all the money gathered…so maybe I’ll do that again.
NOTE - the last pic is the original yarn (Handmaiden Fine Yarn Casbah Sock in Red Fox) I considered using for this shawl, which got ripped out, and then I started over in Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, alternating Fog and Pecan Hull, which you’ll see in all the other pics.
STARTED WITH (but ripped out):
- US4
- Handmaiden Fine Yarn Casbah Sock - Red Fox (which is really what’s got me wanting to knit something - I just want to try this yarn!)
- SweetGeorgia Yarns Tough Love Sock - Espresso
FINAL CHOICES FOR THIS PROJECT:
- Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light - Fog (blue)
- Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light - Pecan Hull (brown)
Sections:
- Set up - US5
- A - US6
- B - US6
- A - US6
- C - US6
- B - US6 through row 13 (?), then US7
- C - US7
5/13/2015 -
Just contemplating this combination (Red Fox and Espresso) - all are subject to change once I get a chance to get needles and yarn in hand.
5/20/2015 - I am really disappointed in how this looks. Not feeling it at all. I wanted to be really excited about seeing this colorway paired with some lace work. Nope!
5/21/2015 - Thanks to feedback from some friends on here, I felt much better about accepting this was NOT going to make me happy and probably not look good, and so it’s been ripped out and restarted with Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Fog, and wow, it’s already looking so much better!
Knit Set Up with US5, then switched to US6 for Section A.
6/8/2015 - Making good but slow progress on this.
For each section, I’ve found it’s helpful to go through and circle all the row numbers in red that are going to be in Pecan Hull. I need to remember to always switch to Fog the knit row BEFORE the purl ridge row, and then continue to knit Fog through the next purl ridge row. The areas that are all stockinette are done in Fog, as are the the bookending purl ridge rows, and the one knit row just before the first purl ridge row that leads into the stockinette area. It didn’t look right when the row before the purl ridge row was done in Pecan Hull.
7/28/2015 - The shawl went for $65 at the work auction. Jen, who won one of the two I did last year, won this and was bragging about how she’s starting a collection. I have a fan/collector!! Woo hoo! ;-)
