Oops! I purled half a row! More than a dozen rows ago!! It’ll be on the inner part of the headband. No one but I or another knitter who examines it will ever know it’s there.
Off to sleep on it. Decision to leave or frog will be taken after sleep.

1915 hrs.
So, I ripped back and reknit. I couldn’t give up the elasticity of that one missed ridge!

Back to it! Decreasing second earflap.

Oops! Just noticed a missed ply rIght in the middle of the forehead. Ripped back from middle of second earflap.

My inability to count accurately has reared its ugly head yet again!
Despite more than twenty of this pattern done, I have had to rip back a few times on this headband. I fear I shall need to rewrite the directions again - carefully noting row counts between sections of the headband.

I’m back to about the middle of the forehead on this one.

After multiple errors and much ripping back and reknitting, the headband is finally done!!

0815 hrs.
Didn’t sleep all night, but the hat is finished!!

Variation:
I didn’t do helix on top of hat; I don’t know why.
I did the first two even rounds after the first decrease round as knitted rounds, but purled all other even rounds between decrease rounds, AND purled the last 7 stitches, before pulling the end through them twice.

I like the effect of the two consecutive purled rows after the second decrease round. They serve to make the top seem somehow flatter.
