The yarn is a dead-white, one-pound ball of Factory Mill Ends, 100% Unknown Fibres, bought (probably) at long gone Zeller’s.
A burn test says it’s 100% Acrylic. It appears to be DK.
I already have a Multnomah shawl begun from the inside, so this will be worked from the outside. I’m certain there’s enough yardage for both with plenty leftover.
Multiples of 80. Given my size - 6’, 225 lbs. - I’m casting on (crochet-hook cast-on) 480 stitches.

Miraculously, I managed to
A) cast on only once accurately! Stitch markers every 80 stitches, and a red one for end-of-round. 480 sts.
B) join in the round without twisting!!
Now, with one and a sixth rounds done, it’s bedtime.
December 4, 2023
0500 hrs.
Stopped three-eighths into Row 3.
I doubt I’ll ever catch up, but I’m enjoying the knitting.
December 7, 2023

Row 8 done!!
I need to pay closer attention to the yarnovers! Because I had made an extra one on Row 7, I spent too much time locating the extra stitch. No, I didn’t go back to fix it. I just dropped the extra one and teased the slack to either side. Anyone spotting the slightly larger hole is way too close to me!
December 10, 2023

Row 15 done!
December 12, 2023
0423 hrs.
Note says: Row 2:
stitch 64 should be knit.
Row1 of my 80-stitch swatch is done.
1720 hrs
Rows 3 and 4 done!
December 13, 2023
0330 hrs.
On my yellow swatch, I have successfully completed Row 15. I decided to NOT tempt Fate by continuing nearer dawn. I’ll get back at it later - after some sleep, a meal, and an outing to Costco.

CHARTS reign supreme!!! Being able to see what went before is Nirvana!!
As I worked my way around - slipping stitches all the way - and inserting section markers (big plastic rings) and thin brass markers at each ten stitches, I was able to put removable markers where the stitches seemed off. Then, one the first knitting row, I easily corrected the wonky parts, because I was able to see that the previous rows should be! yay!!! I’m a very happy knitter!!

Working from the 39-row chart, is going smoothly! If not done by Christmas, it should at least be done by my birthday in January.
Hopefully, there will be another chart for either all sixty rows or just the final thirty. The two or three line charts are awful!
If they included the last row before, that would make a big difference.

Both my single-repeat and my six-repeat project are at the same row. From here on, I plan on doing the new row on the swatch, before doing it on the project.
December 27, 2023
1904 hrs.
Row 39 done.
It seems to go more quickly now, though I don’t know why.
I think I saw some errors many rows and mini-cables back, but there’s no way I’m going back to fix! Chances are that there aren’t really any errors, that it’s all my imagination. Too often in the past, I have ripped back to fix, only to discover there hadn’t been anything wrong, just my vision!

Yesterday this became portable, or at least, I dared carry it with me and work on it in the (parked) car and in a fast-food place, while waiting for my husband.
I’m into Row 42!
February 7, 2024
After a spate of 1898 Hats and a couple of Bowknot scarfies to replace those stolen from my daughter, I have returned to this.
February 9, 2024
Row 19 of the extension begins:
2 yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, p1, k3, p1.
Before beginning it, I have ten stitches.
Counting the first ten stitches of the row, it’s ten stitches, but … Every time I try to knit it - several dozen times today - I always have one extra stitch after the yo, p1, and I don’t understand how/why!! So, instead of a p1, I’m doing a p2tog. It’s that or skip the single yo, and k4 instead of k3.
Sometime later:
Well, when I get to the second repeat of the pattern, BECAUSE I had to take a stitch from the beginning of the first group of ten stitches in order go complete the last group, the pattern works perfectly!
I’ll see when I reach the end of this round, if I need to fudge anything where I skipped the yo and added a knit stitch.
More hours later.
I’m back to the end/beginning of the round. And I’m totally bollixed.

Row 23 of extension: I knitted the first stitch, then followed the chart.
February 11, 2024
23:35 hrs.
At start of row 25, I did a k1 instead of a ssk.
February 12, 2024
2145 hrs.
On row 26, I did an SSK - last stitch of previous row with first stitch of row.
February 13, 2024
Work first stitch of first repeat of row 27 as a k2tog with the last yo of last repeat of row 26 - leaving it before the end of round marker.
At this rate - a row a day - this still has over a week to go. Maybe next winter will be cold enough to use it?
February 14, 2024
At the end of row 27, instead of a k2tog, I just did a k1.
0227 hrs.
Beginning of row 29, like an earlier one, I began with a k1 instead of an ssk.
1600 hrs.
Began row31 with a k2tog - last stitch of previous row with first if this row.

Maybe I pushed too hard to finish it? My left wrist - lefthand side - is killing me, and has been all day.
BUT it’s finished!!!
