Notes

Years ago, chasing around the city in winter with two youngsters with winter gear, I was always trying to keep track of three scarves, three toques, and six mittens. Somehow, none got lost and no one got frostbitten body parts.
At some point in one or another of this city’s many second-hand stores, I found a bag of worsted weight acrylic yarn - white with blue bits. It was mostly small balls, but I’d never seen yarn coloured that way, so I got it anyway. I decided that the bigger balls would make me a new toque, and then I decided to knit a very, very long attached scarf with all the smaller balls. It worked! I even managed to weave all those ends in, so I can’t spot them. That’s the only reason I don’t take it apart and re-use the pretty yarn. I pity anyone who - after I’m gone - decides to do that.

Yes, it does keep one warm in negative temperatures.

There was never a pattern for the scarf. Except for where it’s joined to the toque, it’s just garter stitch; the joining portion is regular 1x1 ribbing.
The toque probably began with a pattern, but I have no idea from which book or leaflet. I do know it was years before I got online, so it’s not from an online source. It’s a thermal rib, not just flat ribbing.
