Yarn rescued from one butt-ugly thrift-store purchase: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/JessicaJean/recycle-vari...

Since I knit more tightly than most, I’m using a bigger needle size. I do have a pair of 15” single points in 5.5mm, but they’re too long to use in my recliner. So, a Mexican-made Prym Newey circular will do.

Since I’m bigger than most, I’ll be casting on more stitches. I have loads of yarn. smiley

Cast on 51 instead of 41.

Row 1 is the right side.
Row 2 is the wrong and increase side.

Pattern says: slip first stitch purlwise; knit last through the back loop.
That doesn’t please me with the colour change every other row.
So, I’m slipping the first stitch knitwise, and purling the last stitch.

Hmm … the white of the variegated yarn looks positively dirty compared to the (slightly thicker) very white yarn.

I know whites aren’t all the same.

More stash-diving. Made a second start with a different white yarn. Looks better!

March 1, 2022

Restarted with a less bulky and less white white yarn.
Changed needles to ChiaoGoo.

Had to start over anyway, because I had been going wrong from the start. I had knit two rows before beginning to decrease.

Rec’d reply to my inquiry about adding the pattern to Ravelry’s database, added screenshot to photos above.

Since I began with 51 stitches instead of 41, I need to continue increasing until 91, instead of 81.

11:20 PM
Restarted a third (and final!) time. I wasn’t happy with the two-ball look. The continuous white garter ridges on one side made it have a right and wrong side. It looks better left to pool as it might, with no right or wrong sides. Keeping three balls untangled keeps me busy.smiling_imp

Six rows left in the increase section!

It just occurred to me that the name of the pattern and the colours I’m using go well together. Just happenstance.

3 PM Increase section done! Now just interminable back and forth.

29” from start. Pattern calls for 39”, but - being larger than most women - I’ll go longer. To be determined.
I certainly have more than enough yarn.

I should have paid closer attention in math classes, more than a few decades ago.
Because I didn’t, I’m in a nice muddle now.
I cast on more stitches. I increased more. And now I’m trying to figure out how to (when) to begin the decrease section.
Since I hadn’t preplanned (Who? Me?), I now need to continue by guess and by gorry.

April 30, 2022

Beginning decrease section.
Sl 1 knitwise, k1, k2tog, k across.

Hmm … Tiny problem. After working one decrease row, I counted stitches. I haven’t counted them in weeks. 91. There were supposed to be 91, before any decreases.
Two things - either I miscounted - now or at the start, or I accidentally added a stitch somewhere. Neither requires ripping back. I’ll recount after some sleep, and continue with whatever the count is anyway. In this wild mishmash of colours, no one not looking for the mistake will ever find it. I’m not sure anyone looking for a added stitch could even find it! Not without stretching this out on a frame and studying it backlit - and then only maybe. smiling_imp

Well, recounted, and it didn’t change. Continuing. Placed a stitch marker after the first two stitches on the decrease edge. So, until I get down to 51 stitches, the decrease rows are: sl1, k1, sm, k2tog, k across.

DONE!!! All but weaving in of ends. Three at each end and a few where a new ball of yarn was joined. Daylight’s best for that.
