Notes

Began with a crochet-hook cast-on on similarly sized knitting needle - the only way I know to avoid a too-tight foundation row.

This grey metal crochet hook bears a brand name I’ve never seen before: Prims, and its ‘tail’ is somewhat tapered before a blunt end.

Using a light blue that is probably Red Heart Supersaver. Began with 180g; I guess it was partially used before it ended up in the second-hand store where I bought it.

Contrasting colours will be whatever I have.
A) white
B) dark green
C) orange
D) burgundy
E) pale green

So … I thought I was making a scarf and only had a few rows left, but my darling saw it and said it would look good as a blanket. Therefore, it shall continue growing. What had been the length of the scarf will now become the length of the blanket.

Added info on two of the yarns currently going into it; for a wonder, I have some yarns with ball bands!
The Hunter Green is of relatively recent manufacture; it’s labeled in three languages (English, French, and Spanish - as per NAFTA rules) and has a pattern on the inside of the ball band, but there’s no indication of length, only weight: 6 oz. | 170 g.
The Tangerine is a much older vintage.
Coats & Clark
Red Heart
4 ply handknitting yarn
machine washable and dryable
a “wintuk” product
100% virgin Orlon® acrylic fiber
net wt. 99.2 g (3½ oz.)
Inside the ball band, detailed washing/drying directions and a four-inch ruler; no pattern.
Someone bought it at Wal-Mart for the princely sum of ninety-three cents - a lime-green sale sticker. So, it can’t be any earlier than 1962, when Wal-Mart began.
I LIKE the fact that the ball band has instructions on how to begin it.
“Pull out skein
First pull out single strand from center of skein on left side, then, start with center on right.”
No ‘yarn barf’! Remember those days??

I’ve begun the fourth repeat of the five contrasting colouors. I’m not working on it exclusively; too many other WIPs are getting worked on in turn. This one, with a minimum of six different balls of yarn, is not optimum for travelling. I seem to get more knitting done in the car than at home.

Since this is supposed to be growing into a blanket, it will need a border, and the border shown in this video would be the perfect one: http://ozovid.com/easy-to-crochet-blanket-unique-look-yol...

Since I haven’t written down the pattern and have no working printer and can’t always get into the Yarnspirations website, and can’t remember from one week to the next …
This is what I’m doing:
7th row: With A, ch 3 (counts as dc). $Miss next sc. 3 dc in next ch-3 sp. Rep from $ to last sc. 1 dc in
last sc. Join MC. Turn.
8th row: With MC, ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. $Ch 3.
Miss next 3 dc. 1 sc between 3rd and 4th dc. Rep
from $ to last 4 dc. Ch 3. 1 sc in last dc. Turn.
Rep last 2 rows for pat, substituting A in the
following sequence: B, C, D, E, A, B, C, D, E and
ending with 8th row of pat.”

Yes, I’ve picked it up and have worked a couple more rows. It’s freeping hot to have a partial afghan on the lap!

Backlit progress photo taken and added. It’s growing, albeit slowly.

Oops!! It’s been in use on our bed for the last few weeks, and I don’t remember just what day I stopped adding rounds of single crochet to it. The last round’s tail is still hanging, and it hasn’t yet been washed, but I’m now calling it finished. It’s always possible that I add more on the sides - at some future date. It’s more than long enough, but it could stand to be wider.

Nights are getting cooler. I wish I remembered where I put this blanket! In the meantime, we’re using a couple of smaller - almost baby-sized - blankets. I really need to organize!
