22 sts for border from Bias Scarf with Ribbed Cables. No biasing.
Stitch markers placed all around, to assist me in keeping track of when to cable.

Well, I’ve got the border growing slowly at both ends of the blanket. Right now, they’re on two separate needles, but - when the bottom one catches up to the top one - I’ll be doing them both on one needle. Since I seem to need to use a row counter in order to keep track, I may as well do two at a time and only have to keep track once instead of twice. Then I’ll repeat the exercise on the two long sides.

Since trying to make such a wide border turn the corners would be a beast, I’ll just work a mitered square at each corner.

There seems to have been a good reason for this ribbed cable to be worked on a biased garter stitch. It’s longer than the plain garter stitch. It will be somewhat ruffly in comparison to the rest of the border and blanket. So be it! At least, the border won’t ever flip again.

Because my brain isn’t cooperating with using my usual row-counting methods - row counter on the needle or tally marks with paper and pencil - I’ve installed knitCompanion (the basic, free app) onto my cheapo RCA tablet. It works! And it has row counters that I seem to be able to use more effectively than my usual. I wouldn’t mind were they just a tad larger, but I just squint if I’m unsure of the digit. ;)

One short end bordered!!! I left the needles on it; I may just work the mitered square corner-filler from the live stitches. I’ll decide when I get there. I have plenty of needles/cables.

At about 2:30 AM, the added border on the other end was completed, and the beginning of the side border was begun.

At about 1 PM, darling daughter phoned to say this is strictly a no-gifts wedding. Her reasons are valid. They’ve just about combined two single-person households into one. They’re about to adopt one or more children; and the agency has stated that absolutely nothing not the individual child’s is to be in the child’s room - so no storage of blankets on upper shelves of closet in child’s room. And, she already has several blankets I made for her in the past, and has no need for blankets in Fresno. :(

So, I’ll still be finishing the added border on this small throw, but it’ll be going to someone else, not our daughter. Since I haven’t seen my youngest cousin in the last couple of decades and since it seems we’ll be seeing her while we’re in California and since she has only ever received one blanket from me, it looks as though it’ll be going to her. She lives further north than Fresno, so will presumably have more use for it anyway.
Yes, my enthusiasm is somewhat reduced, but at least this project will be done and dusted.

Once a side border was begun, I stopped and did the mitered corner to fill in that corner. It’s perfect!!!

Actual knitting on of the border and the final mitered corner completed a few days ago - maybe on the 2nd or 3rd of March.

All that’s left to do is lay it out on the bed and measure it, and - of course - finish weaving in ends. If I remember, I’ll weigh it - just to know how much yarn it ate up.
I won’t do the weaving in of ends at home, because I don’t want to incorporate any long black cat hairs into it, and that would be unavoidable with it open on my lap. So, it will be my constant companion to knitting meetings for the next few. Besides, the coffee, conversation, and daylight there makes the job much less painful.

Finally measured it! 62.5” x 55” w/border. Interesting that the unbordered length has become the bordered width.

The added border ate up about eleven forty-gram balls of yarn! I still need to weigh the blanket.

It only took two or three Sunday Knitting Meetings to have done with all the ends! :D

Never did bother weighing it, so total weight of yarn used is unknown.

Since my daughter was adamant about not accepting it as a wedding gift, even after seeing it completely open in her living room, it was given to my youngest cousin’s daughter - just a day before her 16th birthday. Hopefully, it will survive her teen years and the pets to be treasured at some future date. If not, well, it’s out of my control, and there’s an empty space on the shelf where it lived with its flipping edges for the last too-many years!
