Notes

I’ve done at least a dozen C2C blankets over the years, but the technique used by this guy intrigued me.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=X8eyDtHycho&feature=emb...

Where I always did a (slip stitch, ch3), he does a (sc, ch2).
So far, this seems to make a slightly ‘bubbly’ or textured fabric, because the group of 3dc are a bit squashed into the smaller space made by the ch2.

He also works the initial set of 3dc (at the start of each row) into the back bumps of the three chains. I don’t know just what effect that has … yet.

AND at the beginning of each row, he turns opposite to the way I’ve always done.

Swatching with some unlabelled grey acrylic yarn that had been cut into dozens of pieces. I don’t know if I’ll continue with it, or change to some other yarn.

Using a Brittany crochet hook (eBay buy, ages ago) which is so old, it hasn’t any metric size, only a large uppercase letter i.

Beginning with a small ball of purple yarn. The grey is banished to eventually become part of my Magic Ball.

July 25, 2022

The Brittany hook seems to have fine cracks, which snag too often. Switched to a no-name ergonomic hook bought awhile ago on eBay.

Decided to do irregular blocks, instead of odd stripes. So far, I’m liking it! blush

August 3, 2022

After continuing for hours past the hole in the red-ish bit, I finally decided I couldn’t live with it. Sometime after midnight Sunday night. Ripped out more than half, making no attempt to keep colours in order. Recommenced, leaving out the too slick (maybe Caron Simply Soft?) light blue altogether. No new photo yet. Maybe later today.

I’m not trying anymore to keep to rectangles and squares. It’s going to be random shapes, dictated by yarn length and/or whimsy. I added Jigsaw to the name.

August 5, 2022

Decided to some variegated yarns into the mix. The first on is a partial ball of Red Heart TLC Essentials in colourway “Bambi” - palest pastel blue, yellow, pink, and green. It looks as though there’s also white, but it’s only a short length between the others.
Second is a full ball of black-grey-white with tinges of light blue where the grey and white meet.

Except the tails on the edges of the initial stripes, all ends were woven in while enjoying the coolth of air conditioning at Sunday morning knitting meeting. Onward!!

Looking at the photos, it may seem that the yellows are all the same. They’re not. Different shades of yellow. Different brands/thicknesses of yarn. In person, their differences are readily visible.

It’s as wide as our queen-sized mattress!
I need to measure the duvet cover I want it to fit inside of. (That’s why it doesn’t matter how much it resembles a dog’s dinner smiling_imp.)
I also need to root out some more yarns. I’m already using one that’s too thin, doubled.

August 13, 2022

Adding a partial ball of an old ball of Baycrest Sayelle Knitting Worsted.
How old?
No bar code.
Only English and French.
Nothing at all printed on the inside of the label.
Maybe the 1970s?
Nice yarn, though a strange shade.

August 17, 2022

Past the halfway point!! Soon I can begin decreasing on the other side.

Time to consider the border. This one, unlike every other C2C I’ve ever made, will have a border. Maybe black? I have lots of black, but haven’t used any in this kaleidoscope of colours. The solid darks are navy blue, and the variegated yarns don’t ‘count’.

11:30 PM Turned corner at top edge!!

August 20, 2022

WHAT is the matter with me?!?!
It’s HOT! So, what am I doing to cool off? Sitting under a three-quarters done queen-sized blanket as it grows ever larger. I should be working on mittens, caps, gloves, cowls, or even leg-warmers. NOT a big, heavy, and ever larger bleeping blanket!!!
Maybe next year we’ll get an air conditioning unit?

September 5, 2022

Adding a 4-stitch, brown, i-cord.
28” old Boye or Susan Bates circular. I’d rather use a pair of double-pointed needles, but this will take days. I don’t want to waste time chasing after the dropped needle all the time. Can’t lose the circular!

To turn corner, I worked four corner stitches twice each.

Crocheting finished: September 3, 2022
Knitting (i-cord border) begun: September 3, 2022.

September 7, 2022: completed border on one short end!

September 8, 2022

Third corner turned!!
Second ball of yarn joined.
Progress!!

September 10, 2022

Fourth corner turned!! Now the straightaway!!

2:30 AM About one yard left to do, but my bed is calling.
