Kit #3, delivered May 7, 2025

0215 hrs.
My third one of this slightly addictive pattern for an utterly useless item.
Basic pattern I’m using: https://share.temu.com/DMelMmsddgA
And for greenery and flowers:
https://share.temu.com/zYTKGjNqU4A

The kit includes a 3mm hook.
The yarn gives 10 wraps-per-inch, and I work tightly. I used a 3.5mm hook on the first; 4.5mm hook on the second, and am trying 5mm on this one.

Another change is the number of wedges. Pattern calls for 12 wedges, and that seemed too much on the second one. So, I’m trying eleven this time.

July 4, 2025

Reducing the number of wedges from a dozen to eleven seems to have done the trick! It lies flat with no ‘smoothing’.

July 6, 2025

0340 hrs.
I just ripped back about three rounds, because I saw where I had neglected to make an increase. I know only God is perfect, but I do strive to avoid (or go back and correct) my inevitable errors.

July 10, 2025

A knot! In the fourth ball. Not a tiny knot, but a big, sloppy, hand-tied knot! I teased it open, didn’t need to trim any length.

July 11, 2025

At the end of round 23, I have the expected 23 dc on each wedge.
Maybe more frequent counting will save me from errors?

When I get to the flowers, try this:

Fifth ball begun partway through round # 24.

July 14, 2025

0425 hrs.
Each wedge is supposed to have 27 dc now, after round 27.

Mea culpa! I neglected to count EVERY section in EVERY round. Thus, I have now discovered that, ALL in wedge 9,
back in round 24, I managed to make an extra increase
back in round 25, ditto
back in round 26, I skipped a stitch.

Now, sleep.
Later, to decide between frogging about 900 stitches, or skipping an increase in round 28 to even the count out.

1544 hrs.
Having slept on my problem, I ripped back almost an entire ball, have recounted, replaced stitch markers, counted again, and am happily continuing.

I hope to remember to count at the end of each wedge. If I don’t, I will surely regret it.

Finally! Next to last ball of white begun in round 28.

July 16, 2025

I am determined that there be ZERO errors in this double crocheted disc, but I keep making dumb mistakes. As I was finishing round 29, my count on the last wedge was missing one. Recounting only confirmed it. Looking at the previous rounds, I discovered that I had neglected an increase … the last stitch of round 25. white_frowning_face

So, I am back to redoing round 26 again! Good thing I like this yarn.

0425 hrs.
Round 27 completed (again!) and EVERY wedge has the required 27 stitches with a chain between each.

July 18, 2025

0300 hrs.
Round 28 completed and each wedge counted.
Onward!

2135 hrs.
Round 29 completed, wedges counted as done.
Stitch markers set for next round.

2330 hrs.
Round 30 completed, wedges counted as done.

So, approximately two hours per round at this point.

July 19, 2025

0315 hrs.
Round 31 done, stitch markers placed for the next round.

1800 hrs.
Round 32 done!

July 21, 2025

Round 33 done.
Now, to see if there’s enough white for another round.

0320 hrs.
Almost two wedges to finish round 34, and the white yarn is done. So, having several other kits, I’m robbing a few yards from another.

0400 hrs.
Round 34 done!
Time to decide which greenery to add; there’s only a single ball of green.

July 22, 2025

1540 hrs.
Using second video for greenery and flowers:
https://www.temu.com/goods.html?refer_share_id=uKrZKuxsrI...

2120 hrs.
Miraculously, the first round of greenery needs no fudging!! 128 ch5 loops EVEN!

It would be nice if the pattern videos specified how many stitches one should have at any given point in the process. Only after having to readjust on this portion of the previous project, had I learned I needed an even number of ch5 loops.
Now, the base for the flowers and the leaves.

2215 hrs.
Body of project done with a Boye H/8 5.00 mm hook.
First round of greenery, ditto.
However, the second round … After just one of each motif, I think they’re too limp. That, and the fact there’s only the one ball of green, are why I ‘m switching to the unbranded pink 3.0 mm hook that came with the kit.
Let’s see if it gets me to the end of the round!

2300 hrs.
After trying with the smaller hook, I realized it matched poorly with the first round, so frogged that and am redoing from the beginning of the greenery.

July 23, 2025

0310 hrs.
New first round of greenery done, and a couple of each motif of round two.
Tomorrow morning, I ‘ll add a couple of roses, just to see if it all works together as it should.

1715 hrs.
It works!! First flower done, and I like it!! grinning

Onward to finish the second round of greenery, and add the remaining 63 roses!

August 3, 2025

2330 hrs.
Now that the second one is completed, I can get back to this one!

August 4, 2025

0155 hrs.
Three flowers done … almost. I’ll close the rear opening and weave in the tail later today, after a sleep.

August 5, 2025

Well, this one’s got at least one accidental error. One of the fan-shapes (that that form the basis for the flowers) is missing the ch1 spaces between them. I deliberately missed a yo or two while making its petals, because the spacing was just too tight.

August 6, 2025

0420 hrs.
Eighteen flowers done, in groups of four. The first ball of two red is almost done. It might do two more flowers. No way will there be enough red to complete the flowers. I have no idea what other colours I’ll use to fill in the gaps between the groups of four. Maybe just leave this one in Limbo, while working on another kit? For now, I’m going to finish the red on hand.

August 6, 2025

2255 hrs.
One advantage of doing the flowers separately is that eliminates the constant turning of the entire piece. On these smaller ‘blankets’, turning isn’t a great problem, but I have kits for much larger ones. Those would be more of a challenge to turn twice while making the flowers.
I’ll continue making these, while keeping my options open for the next one.

August 7, 2025

2300 hrs.
Decisions!
Half of the scheduled flowers are done.

  • Is there enough yarn left to make another eight? That would leave only 28 to do in other colours.
  • Should I look to see if any untouched kit has the identical shade of red?
  • Should I park this, work on other kits, and see if any have leftover flower-colours?

While deciding, I’ll finish another round dishcloth.

August 8, 2025

0315 hrs.
So, a quick inspection of the kits which include red has found one (out of five!) with the exact same ball-band-less red. So, I shall continue this one as planned, and worry down the road about missing yarn for flowers. rolling_on_the_floor_laughing

0610 hrs.
Only 23 flowers yet to make. Not nearly enough of the last ball to make another. Will start new yarn after a sleep.

2210 hrs.
A knot!!

2240 hrs.
N.B. If/when I do this border again, do NOT complete the ‘fans’ round of greenery all at once! Instead, work a few fans, then do some flowers, before doing more fans. That way, any misshapen fans can easily be corrected. Impossible otherwise.

I just found a fan that had only spaces for five petals, and another that hadn’t any spaces between three of the dc stitches.

August 10, 2025

0155 hrs.
FINISHED!!

I used the second ball of red from another kit to make the last two flowers. rose

Now, to start the next!
