Notes

After over 50 years of knitting and crocheting, even though I don’t often swatch, I have accumulated quite a number of them. If the yarn in the swatch wasn’t necessary for the project, the swatch remained. When I saw this pattern, I got the idea to make the base mesh and randomly add my assorted swatches - both knit and crochet - to it. Some of my knit-buddies are donating their swatches to it, too! I may or may not eventually make the 6 motifs that are in the pattern. In the meantime, a lifetime of swatches have finally found a home!
2013-04-23 - I’m into the fourth ball of the base yarn and have already sewn on five swatches. My rule is: sew on as soon as I find it. (No, I don’t have all my swatches in one place. I doubt there are two together anywhere in my wool-room!)

The Entrelac swatches: The true colour of the orange one is the third one - a photograph, not a scan - shown before it was stitched down onto the base mesh.
Stitched down, the solid one is bigger than the two-tone one, because I pulled it out flat and tacked down middle parts of it to make it be flat. The two-tone one is only stitched down along the perimeter and was allowed to be as puffy as it wished - though the scanner did squish it some.

2014-06-15 The pattern for the snowflake square is from a workshop on Knitting Paradise at: http://www.knittingparadise.com/t-165558-1.html

I haven’t taken updated photos of the whole afghan yet. It’s still a work-in-progress. I have many more swatches (courtesy of my knitting buddies’ contributions!) to sew onto it and photos yet to take.

I’ve also begun adding projects that were begun but never finished. Easier and more useful to sew a partial scarf onto the base mesh than to rip it out and then have to find a use for the small amount of yarn from it.

Finally! I’m back to this WIP! Mindlessly whipstitching pieces to the background is a perfect task for Sunday Knitting Meeting - especially since they have an effective air-conditioning system. It’s worth their overpriced coffee!
Daylight. Table upon which to rest the mass, while stitching. Good company for conversation. What’s better!?

Big, light-blue square completely attached!

Only five and a half swatches left to sew down! Then see what else I have to fill in the spaces. If I don’t have bits that fit the spaces, I might actually do one or two of the pattern’s flowers.
