This is a massive shawl and will surely take time, but I am using my own yarn so it’s pretty exciting. Plus it’s my first Miriam Felton shawl.
30 Sept 10: Nearly three weeks into the project and I still have a bit of yarn from the first skein left. I did drop this to do other projects but kept working a few rows at a time when I can. Started doing Chart A and it’s still pretty mindless. The shawl is getting huge now!
2 Oct 10: Started Chart B and my does this eat up so much yarn now! All. Those. Purl. Stitches. O_o
7 Oct 10: I finished Chart B and started Chart C tonight. I am knitting from written instructions only because the symbols are making my head spin. The lace pattern is very intuitive though so once you do a couple of repeats the rhythm is stuck in your head and you only need to go back to the pattern to finish off the section. My second skein is down to its last 25% so yeah, it looks like I will need that 3rd skein after all.
13 Oct 10: Started the final chart. It’s slow going esp as I have so many stitches on the needles now, but the purl rows aren’t really that bad. At least they make good TV knitting.
15 Oct 2010: And she is done…at 1.15am! I used a 7.5mm needle for the bind-off which has now made me believe that it actually works. I used to just dismiss that instruction about using larger needles to bind off thinking I can just do really loose stitches and it will be just fine. Now off to try and block this thing - I might use the bed since my foam mats may be too small. Wish me luck!
19 Jan 2011: I did not knit a new one, the colour just changed. I overdyed the shawl to match an outfit I am wearing for our company awards dinner.
