Notes

I had a skein of Mountain Mohair left after knitting my Brown Derby cardigan and Estonian Lined Mittens so I decided to make an ear warmer using the cable repeat from Brown Derby, edged with k2p2.

CO 30 st with smaller needles and work in K2P2 rib for a couple of inches, slipping first and last RS stitches knitwise.

Change to larger needles, knit 2 more ribbing rows, then start cabling: slip 1 knitwise, k1 p2, (cable panel)x2, p2 k1, slip 1 knitwise. Purl the slipped stitches on WS.

Worked 9 cable repeats then switched back to smaller needles for the ribbed end. After about 10 rows of ribbing I added 2 Crochet cast-on buttonholes across two stitches 8-9 stitches from each edge. After 4 or 5 more rows of ribbing, bind off.

I could have matched the buttons from the cardigan (I had one button left over) but I decided to use two of the antique Victorian buttons that I can’t stop buying every time I go to Rhinebeck.

Block before sewing on the buttons.

I may add a lining in the same alpaca I used to line the mittens.
