Notes

Will be dyeing some of both yarns to make other colors

Swatched on 3s. Looks like it’ll block to the correct gauge :) (Yarn is wet in photo.) After blocking, gauge measures at 25 sts & 38 rows over stockinette. Guess I don’t have to be quite as “aggressive” with my blocking. The row gauge is worrisome with the circular yoke. It may end up too short, so I’ll do what I can to try it on her and add in a few plain/nondecreasing rows.

Rebecca suggested making the swatch a pocket. Probably a little big for that at this size.

22 Sept Dyeing done! I used McCormick Neon Pink, McCormick Yellow, McCormick (regular/dark) green, Ice Blue Lemonade Kool-Aid, and McCormick Neon Purple + Neon Blue (2:1? Have to check my notes), all on white. And a lot of math. Not sure I have enough white left. Might do some of the middle colorwork in purple instead of white.

Worried I don’t have enough white. Omitting the dots, which is super sad because that was one of the things I liked about this pattern in the first place. If I have enough white left over, I’ll probably do some duplicate stitch.

25 Sept Reached armholes. Now to start sleeves.

28 Sept Finished and attached sleeves.

1 Oct Aaaand I ran out of yarn with 20 rows left in the yoke. Not just white, but purple, light pink, green and blue, and I won’t have enough yellow to finish. I had planned to overdye the pink to get the purple, but also, I just miscalculated how much yarn I’d need--forgot to include the sleeves in my calculations. Dumb. But if you’re wondering, 137 yards isn’t enough for all the CCs. More yarn is on the way thanks to another Raveler, but this will have to be on hold until it comes and gets dyed. (Still have plenty of pink, will have at least one skein left over.)

3 Oct New yarn came! Dyed more of it. Estimated 4 yards per row of each color (this worked out really well).

4 Oct Finished yoke. Started button bands.

5 Oct Finished button bands and neck. Blocked. I used picture hanging wire to help shape the raglan shoulders and sleeves. Also threaded white yarn through the three-row zigzags that looked uneven to try to make them a little sharper. It helped a little.

6 Oct Bought buttons. Rebecca picked pink/green iridescent ones. Probably should’ve gotten ribbon for the backing.

8 Oct Finally sewed on the buttons and used some satin ribbon I had around for the backing.

Rebecca is so excited for this to be done. She’s wearing it to school tomorrow, and one day last week, she came to me and very seriously and sincerely said, “Thank you for working so hard on my sweater.”
