Reclaiming the yarn…
I want a big shawl i can also wrap around me on the sofa (oh no, it’s going to be a shlanket!
)
I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for but I can’t get Winterwork out of my head so time for mods!
The masterplan:
Top down and in 5 sections to give more of a half circle shape (Incr every 4 rows instead of every 2? Fingers crossed…)
Work a garter tab
Pick up sts to end up with 10 sts:
2sts garter, 6sts, 2sts garter
Row 1(RS) 2sts garter, k1fb x5, k1, 2sts garter (total 15sts)
Work 3 rows
Row 5 (RS) 2sts garter, k1, k1fb x9, k1, 2sts garter (total 24sts)
Work 3 rows and place markers for the 5 sections
2 sts garter, k1 k2 k1 pm k1 k2 k1 pm k1 k2 k1 pm k1 k2 k1 pm k1 k2 k1, 2sts garter
From now on, treat as 5 sections, increasing 10sts every 4 rows:
2sts garter, k1, m1r, work across section, m1l, k1, sm, repeat 3x, k1, m1r, work across section, m1l, k1, 2sts garter
Start working the pattern from chart 3 when there are enough sts (reading the chart upside down, it’s not as nice but still a pretty stitch)
If There aren’t enough sts to work a pattern on the edges of a section, cheat a bit and work it in between two sections (if needed, incr in the centre of the section instead).
I had to frog back as i realised i would run out of yarn…
Finished chart 3 when i had 52 sts for each section (210g left)
for chart 2, i centered the pattern for each section, leaving 1 knit stitch either side of the markers (as previously) and incorporated the incr sts into the pattern. (A bit of fudging needed but it looks good)
I stopped increasing in the ribbing section when the border was a continuous k2p2.
Bind off in pattern with 6mm needles
160cm wingspan
68cm deep after blocking
