I am going to make a Spring rainbow (or, according to my son, “Unicorn Barf”) version of this blanket. I’m going to start off with white for a straight edge, then alternate rows 2-7, plus 2-4 again in the color, followed by 5 & 6 (dc) + 7 (sc) rows of white, except I will insert an hdc row between rows 5 & 6 and do row 6 in camel stitch (dc in 3rd loop of the hdc) for texture on the white rows. This way I’ll have wider bands of color so I can just do them in order and not repeat.
I did a swatch and a 6mm hook gives me the best drape (5.5mm was too stiff). The swatch of just the color weighted 23g and was 10” wide. With the white stripe added, it was 33g and about 9.5” tall. So, with the rows for squaring off the start and end, plus six repeats of the above, it will be approximately 60” tall. And 5 repeats of my swatch (10 points) would be 50” wide. So, since each point needs 13 sts (when starting squared off), I’ll 13 x 10 + 4 = 134 starting ch.

I needed a break from all the fine yarn I’m using in my current projects, so I made a start on this. There is no red color in Super Saver Ombré, so I’m starting with Jazzy, the bright pink.

Now that my Sophie’s Universe is done, it’s time for this blanket to become my main WIP, besides the three year-long projects.
I’m going to have a lot of extra of the Ombré yarn. I might make a Attic24 Cozy Stripe blanket as well, which is much like the 6DKB pattern but not as a ripple. I need to do a few swatches to decide how I’m going to use the white, how many starting chains to do if I want to go through the 6-color sequence multiple times.

I have just finished the green stripe, so 4 of the 6 colors done on the body of the blanket.
I messed up the last band of white before the green -- I put two rows of dc, one row of hdc, then two rows of dc again, followed by the sc row. It should have been just one row of dc both times. Fortunately, it is the center band of the white, so I’m going to call it a design element and not fix it.

And she’s done! A little shorter than I’d like, but a good kid blanket (appropriately).
I just finished it off with a round of sc in white after I squared off the top, then a few more rows of sc at top and bottom. In the end, I liked the wider band of white in the middle, and would do the same for the other bands of white if I were to make it again to lengthen it just a smidge.
