I finished the first part of the CAL:

• Chevrons & Diamonds Throw Crochet Along VIDEO #1, Rows 1-7

However, I think I might rip it out and start again to go up a hook size or two. I don’t like how stiff my fabric is coming out. The pattern is clever though one you have to pay attention to as you do it. (It’s very easy to see quickly if you’ve gotten off a stitch though.)

Yesterday I ripped out what I had done so far an started over with a 6.0mm hook. I’m much happier with how it feels now. I did ten rows yesterday and another ten rows this morning, so I am up-to-date with the CAL.

Finished through row 26. I’ve decided I’m only going to do 4 diamond repeats (instead of 5), so roughly to row 160. I’ll also add tassels.

I just timed myself as I worked the last few rows (I’m up to row 50 now), and it takes me about 11 minutes per row. Adding in a swig of coffee, stretching, checking off my progress on my row counter spreadsheet, and scrolling the pattern to the next row, I’m estimating I get done 5 rows in an hour.

In Bonnie’s latest (short) video, she gave us the “assignment” to complete up to row 100 this week! That’s equal to what I’ve already done and a lot of hours of crochet, so we’ll see.

I also created a Google Sheets spreadsheet template of Bonnie’s row tables. I didn’t want to print off all those images from her blog and I like checking things off on-line, so I added actual checkboxes. If you want to use it, all you have to do is do File > Make a copy… and your saved file will be editable.

I’ve made it through the second diamond, so row 80! 20 more rows before Monday? (It’s Friday morning now.) Maybe.

The throw is currently 48” x 24”, so if I stop after the fourth diamond (and don’t finish the fifth as the pattern indicates), then it will be a square. I think I’ll wait until I get to that point to decide after looking at how much yarn I have left.

Row 100 is complete! Bonnie released another video yesterday with just a few minutes of another assignment to do the next 50 rows.

I’ve completed row 120 and the third diamond. I’ve still got 30 rows to complete for the last “assignment”, and Bonnie just came out with the penultimate video. I had a busy, fun weekend and I’ve got a lot of work meetings this week, so there’s no way I can get to row 198 by next Monday! But there is no rush. Ideally, I’d like to finish this throw by the end of August, but that’s only a self-imposed goal since this isn’t a gift or anything.

The last diamond is going quite quickly (about 9 minutes per row now). I am just coming to the end of my 5th skein (on row 187) with two more left, so I’m very pleased with that. I like using up most of the yarn on a project. I’m excited to start the border!

It’s amazing how many different shades of green this blanket appears to be depending on the light. The blanket is done except for steam blocking and tassels.

All steam blocked and tasseled now! This was a fun project. So, this is blanket #11 for this year.

I donated this blanket to a silent auction to benefit my son’s school music program, where it was purchased by a family friend which made me very happy.
