C’s favorite color is hunter green and the Kings Canyon color in Heartland is perfect.
I will swatch some basic stitch patterns to make a modern blanket for her gray Ikea couch at her new CT apartment. I still have a bunch of skeins in a different color from a past Lion Brand sale, so I’ll try a few basic stitch patterns to find something I like for a nice, squishy throw. Perhaps Seedling Stitch (also known as Rice Stitch) or Alpine Stitch? Or even Waffle Stitch again, though I’m kind of tired of doing that stitch after the two blankets last year.

After looking at my sampler, C chose the Seedling Stitch. I did a second swatch with a 6.5mm hook (instead of 6.0mm) and I love the fabric.
My swatch is 6”x6” and 20 sts x 12 rows. It weighs 21 g. If I want a 52” x 60” throw:
(52 / 6) x 20 = 172 stitches (+1 for symmetry)
(60 / 6) x 12 = 120 rows
(52/6) x (60/6) ~= 87 x 21 g = 1827 g
Each skein of LB Heartland is 142 g
1827 g / 142 g = just under 13 skeins
My plan is also to do an integrated, rib stitch border, like I did for the Waffle Weave throws, so that’s included in the yarn amount automatically.

My yarn arrived Monday.
I started today with 167 foundation dc, and I have just completed 7 rows of fpdc, bpdc ribbing, then 12 sts of ribbing on the first row, followed by hdc for the center part, then 12 sts of ribbing at the end. After that, I’m starting and ending the rows with 12 sts of ribbing, one hdc to separate, and Seedling Stitch in the middle. Seedling Stitch is just like the rib except you reverse the fpdc and bpdc from the row below (so, if the stitch is coming toward you, you bpdc around it, and if it’s on the opposite side, you fpdc around it.
I ran out of the first skein of yarn at on the 9th row plus a small bit of the 10th.

I’ve just started my fourth skein of yarn and I’ve got 11.5”. So much for my swatch! That means I’ll have a roughly 57.5” length on the blanket which is a fine length, but good thing Michaels had a deal on a 15-skein pack because 13 wouldn’t have done it.

Just finished the 5th skein and it is approximately 50” x 18.25”.

I’ve just finished the 10th skein, so I am 2/3 done and I am loving how this is coming out. It’s warm and squishy, the texture is lovely, and I love the deep green.
This is also the first big project I’ve done with this Tulip hook and it is fantastic! I use both Clover Amour and Susan Bates Soft hooks, which are both great, but this Tulip is amazing. The yarn glides on the metal beautifully and the grip is very pleasant. I have an excessive number of hooks, but were I to buy any more, I would get an entire set of these.

All done. Not quite as long as I’d like it, but not worth risking a dye lot mismatch and ordering more. Plus I am a little tired of doing the same stitch pattern for so long.
It is super squishy and I think C will like it very much. Her “little” brother approved.
