I am making 6 “squares” of each color, rather than 4, for a bigger throw. (“Squares” is in quotes because they are coming out more rectangular than square.) I bought two skeins of each color and I get 3 squares per skein with a little left over.

I wish I had read more notes from Ravelrers before I had started this pattern! When my first square came out bigger than 7” I went down a size crochet hook which was a big mistake. The fabric looks fine but it is very dense and it is curling in a big way. I should have stayed with the recommended hook size or even gone up a size and just had a larger blanket in the end.
I am almost 1/2 way done with the squares.
I’m deciding now how I am going to attach the squares and what color to use. I’m going to have to use a border to make it lay flat. I’ll probably just single crochet around each square before joining, then do a few rows of single crochet around the whole thing. Getting the different size “squares” to line up will be a challenge.

I’ve started the 6th of the 9 patterns/colors (the lace stitch in gold, which is fun.)

Onward to the rib stitch, which is 7th of the 9 stitches/colors. This one’s easy-peasy.

I just started the honeycomb blocks, which are the second to last of the stitches/colors. This is a very pretty stitch and lies quite nicely flat.

I’m on to the last stitch/color: popcorn in burgundy. Five more of these squares to go and then I’ll have all 54. I’m looking forward to laying them out and deciding how to order them.

Today I finished the last blocks.

The squares are such different sizes, I’ve lost my enthusiasm for finishing this. I should have been more careful as I made them. No major regrets, though. I learned a lot of Tunisian stitches and it was fun doing the squares, plus I will be more careful next time.
Marking this as Frogged though, in reality, I can’t really frog it since all the ends are woven in. But Ravelry doesn’t have a choice for Abandoned.
If I was to start over on this I would do long stripes. This way I’d only have to worry about making them approximately the right number of stitches to get to 7”, then I’d make each one the width of the finished blanket. I would start with the popcorn since that has a certain number of rows that have to repeat.
I have a lot of left-overs from this project that I’ll eventually make into granny squares.
