This sweater has an interesting story behind it. I actually started it around December or January of my freshman year of college. Then I’m not sure what happened, exactly. I remember trying it on and being disappointed that it was a bit on the big and baggy side (probably because I failed to do anything even remotely resembling a gauge swatch). I put it in a grocery bag and forgot about it.

Fast forward to this year, in the midst of my post-grad existential crisis. I rediscovered the sweater and found that now it fits pretty well (yes, I put on a few pounds over the course of college).

Lacking a sweater project at the moment (until my Grandma and I can carve out a time to go yarn shopping), I picked this up right where I left off - about halfway through the first sleeve.

As of today, I’ve finished both sleeves and I’m just starting the button band/collar.

I figured out the sizing thing. The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn. My 18-year-old self decided to use Lion Brand Wool-Ease, which is worsted weight. I tried to make up for it by making the next size down from the one I should have, based on my measurements. It did pretty much work out, even if it is a little on the big size. It’s cozy.

I spent a good hour yesterday looking at buttons in my LYS and then at Jo-Ann Fabrics, but I didn’t find any that I really liked. It’s tough because the MC (Wool-Ease Blue Mist) has flecks of purple and green in it, so straight-up blue buttons don’t look quite right.

I’ll keep looking.
