I really enjoyed making this hippo. As a complete beginner to crochet it was surprisingly straightforward.

I wanted to use my stashed worsted weight yarn for which the book said that I’d need 300-400g. I only had 200 grams but that looked like more than enough but to be careful I used a 4mm hook instead of 5mm. In the end it only took 69 grams! I guess my beginners tension must be wrong but it looks fine to me.
