I delivered it in time for the shower, and the mom-to-be loved it. In fact, she loved it so much she wants to frame it rather than use it.

So I’m saved. I’ll reknit in cotton and she can use that one.

I’ve just realized this yarn is not 100% cotton, and I’m furious. It’s not even two-thirds cotton. It’s more than one-third nylon, which is totally inappropriate for a wash cloth. (The yarn-name and put-up and the look and the label made me think of Tahki Cotton Classic, which actually is cotton. And I’d bought Cotton Classic at this store before.) I’ll remake this for the mom in a yarn that really IS cotton. Damn! Peaches n’ Creme would have been better than this stuff. And, of course, it’ll be too late for the baby shower, which has a theme of “owls” and was the whole point of the project.

The original pattern was for a pot holder. I’m using a thinner, lighter weight yarn. At 30 stitches wide and a yarn gauge of 5.5 stitches/inch, this will be very tiny.

But it’s for a very tiny baby (whose mom has a fondness for owls--and pink), so tiny will be fine.

Worked up in a couple of hours. It’s only 30 stitches by 43 rows (plus CO and BO). The final in this weight of yarn loosely blocks to 6 inches square.

And it’s adorable.
