Hubris made me think I could cast these on and knit the toes in black at a concert last night lol. Today in the light was much more successful.

Starting gusset increases at ~6.75”

Increasing every other round to 84 stitches.

I didn’t do the math for these socks, just making them slightly bigger than Elsie’s. I’m ready to add the heel waste yarn in and it feels too soon, but I don’t want the gusset too much bigger so I’m ripping back to the start of the gusset to knit a few extra rounds. I also used an ugly increase for the first half of the left gusset increases so I’ll fix that too.

Increased to 82 for the heel, did one plain round and placed waste yarn (on a cc round)

After the heel I am decreasing down to 66 stitches because the broken seed stitch portion seems stretchier than stockinette

Discovered a boneheaded mistake today-I switched colors as normal on the rows before and after the afterthought lifeline and of course that line of stitches now connects through the heel.

At least I decided to check the heel fit now after only 3 stripes and not a whole leg….this sock has had a lot of frogging so far!

After frogging I discovered I increased to 86 for the heel apparently???

Frogged back to my intended 82 stitch gusset.

Added waste yarn and decreased to 70/71 for the leg.

Bound off sock 1 today! Just the heel left.

Decreased every other row, every row for a row or two until 14 stitches for the heels

Ripped heel back to 20 stitches and decreased to 14 without a plain row between decreases
