LOVE this bootie pattern! So much easier than trying to work a bootie in the round. I did make a couple tiny modifications to help the bottom of the bootie stay flat. Here is what I did:

In row #2: HDC in BACK LOOP ONLY
In row #3: HDC in FRONT LOOP ONLY

This will create a “ribbed” look sort of. These “ribs” should be on the inside when whip stitching the edges together, so that when you turn them over they will be on the OUTSIDE. This is incorporating a principle from working booties “in the round” to keep the bottom flat.

These took me about an hour to do a pair including weaving in the ends and adding the crocheted “ribbon.” Love them!!
