Notes

How much do I love this pattern? Enough to make it twice! It isn’t nearly as difficult as it looks, but does require a rather profound degree of commitment :)

Based on my previous Serangoon, I made this one with 8 repeats of the swags (Chart B), instead of 6 as called for in the small size. Then I did extra repeats of the mesh chart, too, which gives me a nice long stole (six repeats of chart E instead of four).

All about the beading:

I get a lot of questions about this, so I thought I’d add it to my project page(s).

Bead color:
For those of you looking for the perfect beads to go with Himbeere, bead colors are: Miyuki 6/0 silver-lined flame red AB for mesh, spokes, and edging, and Miyuki 8/0 silver-lined ruby AB for the triangles in between the flower motifs.

Bead size:
Used 6/0 beads on mesh, spokes and edging. Used 8/0 beads (in a slightly different color, because that’s what I had on hand) on the triangles between the flower motifs.

Bead Quantities
Bindoff-- 76 each end, so 152 total.
Mesh--177 each end, so 354 total, because I knitted two extra repeats of Chart E. (If mesh is knitted as written, without extra rows: 151 each end, so 302 total for small size.)
“Spokes” in the lace motif--40 per motif, so 400 total
Triangles--232 total for small size

Bead placement:

For the mesh--
I went through the charts (Charts B2, C, D and E all have mesh) with a highlighter, and highlighted the stitch directly below each p3tog. That is where I put the bead, after working the stitch. This way, the bead ends up centered in the p3tog.

For the “triangles”--
The triangles are in Chart G. You will see a full triangle in the red-outlined repeat section, and half a triangle in each “extra” section (the sections just before and after the repeat). The bead goes on each ssk after working the decrease…which means it is much easier to place the bead on the return row, before purling the stitch. You’re placing beads on Rows 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16.

For the “spokes”--
In Chart I, you see columns of double YOs separated by pairs of decreases. I beaded each of the decreases in those pairs, after I worked the decrease. In fact, I actually placed the bead on the following WS row, before I purled the stitch, because it was easier. There are four pairs per repeat.
