Instead of i-cord edging on the ruffle, I did a small picot bindoff for a little more latin flavor.

The instructions on inserting the elastic aren’t a good amount of detail. There is no suggested length, or even what height of elastic should be used! I bought 3/4” foldover elastic (for bra-making, which becomes 3/8” when folded) in a neon coral color that would be camouflaged well. I used 1 yard.

For insertion, I suggest pinning a safety pin to both ends of the elastic. The one you’re moving through the fabric should continue the line of the elastic, while the one on the other end should be perpendicular and act as a stopper, so the elastic isn’t fully pulled into the knitted tube.

Before inserting, first iron the foldover elastic in half, if you’re using that type. Then, when you insert the safety pin in the hole, you can easily just scrunch the knitted fabric while pushing the safety pin forward through the layers of knit fabric. When you get to the point where the two elastic ends are touching, pull them far out of the sweater with ends together – it will be easier to sew this way. Overlap the two ends and sew them together before rearranging the ruffle evenly around the elastic.
