Notes

This is such a beautiful blanket, but a poorly written pattern. I’m really happy with the finished product, but I agree with Kayteebug96, the maker of the only other project currently on Ravelry, that “the journey was a bit trying”. Here’s mine:

-According to my gauge swatch, I seemed to be a bit loose on the sts and tight on the rows (approx. 8 sts x 11 rows to 2” instead of 9 sts x 10 rows) w/ the recommended H hook. I decided to go with it anyway though, because Kayteebug96 said that she also thought her gauge was too large, so she switched to a smaller hook but then encountered a severe curl, so ended up switching back (& doing some rescue work). For some reason though, I thought I remembered her saying that the curl began at round 60, rather than round 65, so when I was still ok at round 60, I sort of relaxed and lessened my guard about it. I foolishly didn’t actually lay it out again until after I was done, with ends woven in and everything, at which point I too noticed quite a cupping at the edge. I can’t believe I did that! For those that come after us: Beware those last few rows!

I really didn’t want to rip and redo at that point, because those ends were woven in but good, involving the rows above & below in some places, so first I tried a wet block, stretching the edge aggressively all around (I’m surprised I didn’t break it!). I didn’t really expect much, because it’s acrylic, but much to my relief & pleasure, that seems to have worked! Wonder of wonders, it lays nice and flat now. Phew! I still think though, that if I were to make this again, I would switch to a larger hook for the last 2 or 3 rows, or for the crab stitch edge at the very least.

-Round 31: Had 120 V-sts instead of 118

-Round 33: Had 120 Ch-2 sps instead of 118

-Round 34: Had 60 shells & 60 sc instead of 59 each

-Round 38: Should have 416 sts (32 peaks x 13 sts), but I had 424 (32 peaks plus 8 extra sts). Had to rip out and redo, skipping 8 sts evenly around. Skipped 1 stitch every 4th peak (skipped the stitch after the peak, except the last one, where I skipped the very last stitch instead, as that was very close to the beginning).

-Round 39: I had 27” diameter instead of 26”

-Round 45: 192 ch-1 sps instead of 191. I don’t see how it would be possible to have 191 unless I skipped stitches.

-Round 47: 192 Ch-1 sps instead of 191

-Round 49: Should have 30 petals @ 19 sts each = 570 sts, but had 576 instead (3 sts for every ch-1 space). So I skipped 6 sts evenly around, in the same manner as I did for Round 38: I skipped the first stitch after the peak, every 6th peak, and also the first st after the beginning ch/sc, which was very crowded.
NOTE: Even if I’d had the correct number of ch-1 spaces (191), I still would have had the wrong number to work out evenly for this round. I would have had 3 sts ea for 191 ch-1 spaces, which = 573 sts instead of the required 570. So I still would have had to adjust for this by skipping stitches.

-Round 51: Begin by slip-stitching to the next stitch after the join before switching colors and chaining up. Then for each peak, there are 8 hdc both before and after the peak, instead of 8 after and 7 before as directed.

-Round 54: Begin by slip-stitching to the next stitch after the join before switching colors. Then ch-1 before the first BPhdc.

-Round 55: 285 ch-1 spaces.

-Round 56: Did not fasten off, but slip-stitched to the center of the next peak.

-Round 57: There are well over “16 sts or ch-1 sps” to count between the peaks. There are alternating 18 or 20 sts, not counting the ch-1 sps, between the peaks. And the instructions to work “16 sts evenly between the peaks as follows” actually works out to only 14 sts. So I worked the 14 sts as instructed between the peaks, but had to skip sts here & there to make it work. This consisted of skipping the center stitch of the valley in the middle of the FPtr4tog, and one to three others, depending on what was needed. For the most part, instead of actually skipping stitches, which would pull or leave a hole, I would FPhdc2tog the stitch before &/or after the peak. And if needed, I would also FPtr2tog the tr before the center decrease.

Phew! That’s a lot. I don’t know if these were my mistakes or if the pattern was wrong, but this was my experience, so I kept track in case I want to make it again, or if someone else has similar problems.

I actually completed this about 2-1/2 weeks faster than it appears here, because I set it aside to make another project in the meantime. Normally I’m a pretty monogamous stitcher.

I stashed the yarn together as a kit, so this is how my yarn usage broke out:
Tea Party: 86 Grams/337.86 Yards/1.54 Skeins
White: 142 Grams/557.86 Yards/2.54 Skeins
Seafoam: 70.5 Grams/276.96 Yards/1.26 Skeins
Iris: 83.5 Grams/328.04 Yards/1.49 Skeins

Photos are before blocking.
