I’ve knit with Mohair before, but not held together with Merino fingering like this. What a lovely fluffy fabric it makes! I know I’m always late to the party, but I get the obsession now.
Such a simple, classic v-neck sweater pattern, but I really love all the little details that add so much to it, such as the puff sleeves, the i-cord bind-off, and the lines of eyelet lace.
Size: Made the 4th size (41.25”), to finish smaller, as my gauge is closer to 20 sts/4” (instead of 18). My row gauge is pretty much on target (26 rows/4”, or 6.5 rows per inch).
Needles: Signature 32”. I began on size 8 (5mm), but then ended up restarting with size 7 (4.5mm), because my swatch had lied, and I didn’t like the fabric I was getting.
Cast On: Long Tail
Body: 90 rounds (~14”)
Neckline: Picked up for 1 size down (3 across back of neck and 50 down each side), because I wasn’t able to pick up the amount required for the size I was making.
Sleeves: Worked in tandem, each on its own 12” needle.
50 rounds before beginning increases = approx. 7” instead of 6”, because the remaining 2 rounds will add only about 10” at my gauge instead of 11”, making the sleeves too short (my row gauge seems to have tightened up, surprise, surprise). Also, the crook of my elbow is at more like 8“ than 6”, and I didn’t want to start the puff too high.
Did an extra 3 repeats of the increase rounds, because the sleeves were neither long enough nor blousy enough (total 15 reps/84 sts). I probably should have done only 2 extra, because they ended up a little longer & blousier than they needed to be, but better that than the other way around. Those puffy sleeves were what attracted me to the pattern in the first place. They really make it for me.
I-Cord Bind Offs: I grafted all the I-cord bind offs per this video by Mimi Kezer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG588JLv4N4

If the sun ever comes out again, I’ll try to get some more pictures, especially one that shows the sparkle of the yarn. It’s got a soft, subtle gold sparkle. It’s so good!
