I keep hearing that its going to get very cold here in Cape Town, but it’s 90 degrees today… just how I like it! To prepare for the upcoming cold weather, I made these fingerless gloves (or partially fingered gloves) for my hubby.
I found the wrist ribbing to be a bit too big for the hand, as written. I knitted the wrist on size 5 US needles for the 8.5” size. I then knitting the stockinette round (as per the instructions) and then added another stockinette round- this time with 5 evenly spaced increases-- to get to the stitch count (51 stitches) for the size 9” gloves. I knitted the entire hand section as per the instructions for the 9” gloves.

Because I tend to knit tightly, I used a size 6 US needle on the cable portion only. This seemed to make the cabled portion and the rib to be about the same tension and stitch size. I hadn’t used different sized needles for different portions of one pattern before, but after reading about it, I realize that this is definitely a winning idea.

Overall, a great and quick pattern. Hubby says he likes them-- before quickly taking them off-- because its 90 degrees outside.

Liked the Debbie Bliss Aran yarn, which is a bit heavier than the worsted weight called for in the pattern. Easy to knit with-- though we’ll see how it stands up over time.
