Post Mortem

This cabling pattern was super easy to pick up and remember after knitting a few repeats of it. Maybe not the best cabling project for a total newbie but I had only ever knit cables once before this project and I am proud to say I only made one cable direction error right at the very end!

Grafting the arms into the rest of the cardigan gave me significant issues. I uploaded a pic of just how tight those initial rows were before you decrease down. I kept feeling like there must’ve been a better way to graft in the sleeves but then I saw that for certain sizes you need to decrease into several of the cables going up the front. Check out minereditor’s Dubline Cardigan project to see how she handled the decreases. Her pictures were definitely a lifesaver for me.

I made the decision to block out the sleeves before sewing them up. this allowed me to get them perfectly square and they also dried much faster this way because of less material pile-up.

Knitpick’s Swish Worsted yarn feels so soft and wonderful on this project but because of the superwash nature the yarn doesn’t have the elasticity for holding up the weight of the cables. I’ve read elsewhere online that a good tumble through a low/no heat dryer snaps the yarn back into place just fine but I haven’t had the courage to try that just yet.

The yarn also pills like a bitch.
