I had started this with some Simply Soft toward the beginning of the year, but I ran out of yarn, and it hung around for a long time while I worked on other things. I finally decided to start over with a different yarn, though, and I’m happy with it!
I doubled the yarn and used a small needle so that it would be dense enough to stuff. It was probably about like a worsted weight once it was doubled. I stuffed it lightly so that the cube shape wouldn’t be too distorted, since it really wants to be more of a sphere when it’s stuffed more.
This was definitely a puzzle! Don’t follow the charts too closely. Make sure you mostly follow the revised instructions. The charts are still necessary to see how to actually knit each section. I’ll include a picture of the cube I taped together to figure out how everything connected. There’s still an error in the revised part. For square 9, it should say that the right edge joins to the bottom of 4, not the top. It would also be helpful if the instructions for square 21 said that the cable is picked up from the top of 9, under the cable from 10 to 11. Technically, though, that’s not an error.
I started out making notes on which squares were knit like which charts, but there aren’t always good charts to go by. I’ll write out what I’ve got, though.
Squares 1 and 2 are knit as written. Square 3 is knit like the chart for 4. Sq. 4 is like chart 5. Sq. 5 is like chart 6 without the “ssk”s. Sq. 6 is like chart 7. Sq. 7 is like chart 6 without the “ssk”s. Sq. 8 is like chart 7. Square 9 is like chart 15. After that, it started to get a little too ridiculous to get things to match up, but by this point, you can probably work it out on your own.
Anyway, this was a lot of fun because there was a great mix of relatively mindless knitting mixed with the puzzle of figuring out what goes where and how. I’d definitely recommend this pattern!
