I started the actual ornament today. I worked on a couple of large swatches first. This is my first real fair isle attempt, other than just playing with swatches, and it should probably be with a heavier yarn until I get better at it. But who am I to listen to reason? The first swatch for this was by far the best fair isle I’ve ever done. The second was a sort-of double knitting attempt. I’ve never paid enough attention to instructions for double knitting to know that I did it right, but I think I came close.

It turned out better than I expected. It looks kind of funny at the seam, where stitches got tugged out of shape. Of course, there are uneven stitches all over it, but most of it isn’t really noticeable to people who aren’t knitters or perfectionists.
