This pattern doesn’t seem to be available anymore, and I don’t know any German anyway, so I had to use this pattern to help me. I debated which pattern to call this, but I just barely used the written pattern to understand what was going on, then I studied the Sterntopflappen pattern to try to make it look more like that one.

Well, I finished it for the most part today, but it doesn’t want to lay down right. I’m not quite sure yet what I’m going to do with that. But I think the hard part is done.

I got it to lay mostly right by pinning it down and ironing it. It was a lot of work to get it pinned properly, though, and it’s still not perfect by any means! Honestly, I think the best plan would be to sew a backing on it. I’m sure there’s a better way to crochet it to help it lay down properly, too, though.
When you first start understanding how to crochet it, it doesn’t seem like it could possibly make this shape. But all of a sudden, when you get far enough, it starts twisting itself into the right shape! Not exactly right, obviously, but well enough for you to get the idea.
I sold this for $10 at the Making Strides fundraiser on 9/26/15.
