Finished today! I am delighted with these. They have not yet been given to Tobias, but he has tried on the first and seems pleased. These gauntlets in this yarn are absolutely smooth and delicious feeling. I will be making more fingerless gloves in this yarn for sure - for me and for Hazel.

I discovered this pattern a while ago and showed it to my 15-year-old grandson Tobias last month after he had shown that he appreciated fingerless gloves. He thought they would be cool, so we went upstairs to my old stash, which I have scarcely touched since my daughter Meg started Twisted Fiber Art. He picked out some dark gray Cascade 220, and I started. It took a very short time for me to find that a) the gauntlet was much too large and b) I’m totally spoiled and the Cascade just wasn’t cutting it for me.
So I ordered a skein of Smolder, a nearly-solid gray coordinate to Crush, from Meg in her new sportweight MCN base, Yummy. I got the yarn on Friday and started knitting Saturday morning. I knit on the first gauntlet most of Saturday and three hours more on Sunday, and I loved it! This is one of the most entertaining things I’ve ever knit - and I like the result, too - nice bonus!
I started on size 4 needles and they were too big even with this yarn, so I went down to 2s, but unfortunately didn’t rip out the half-dozen or so rows I had already done, so the cuff flares a lot. But aside from that, I absolutely love how the first gauntlet (so far without thumb, but otherwise done) looks. And the feel is just spectacular. I love how the fabric from this yarn feels on my forearm and hand. I will be making myself gauntlets from this base. And my granddaughter Hazel tried it on, and she had the same reaction, so she’s on my list now, too.
