This ensemble was designed and knitted to be sold in my Etsy shop, therefore I did not use a pattern and simply created a dress and accessories that matched the image in my mind.

The dress is knitted in the Egyptian Cotton Metallics Crochet Thread in the colour red. It is embellished with more than five hundred silver lined crystal AB size 6/0 Miyuki beads (from www.earthfaire.com). I slipped a bead in between each stitch as I cast on for the five ruffles in the skirt and on both sleeves. The neckline also has beads, these I placed using the crochet hook method on a row of eyelet stitches, after I cast off the neck I sewed it in place so that the beads lie flat against the“skin”.

The Petticoat is knitted in Aunt Lidia’s white cotton thread, and the Mantilla in the black cotton thread. The petticoat was knitted in the round beginning at the hem with a lace frill. It is completed with a row of eyelets at the waist and an icord drawstring to provide a snug adjustable fit.

The fan was made using the DMC black cotton thread and size 11/0 crystal Miyuki beads (again from Earth Faire). It was worked in a matching lace pattern, decreasing on both sides to create the right shape, then washed, blocked and fitted in place on the frame. A single strand of beads was sewn in place to form a “handle”.
