I CO 70 stitches and changed the pattern itself a bit (i should change that on the pattern itself soon) when make the diagonal lines for the symbol, I just knit 5 stitches, and then gradually moved them over one stiches as i went up the hat so for example:
Rnd 10: …k1 MC, k4 CC, k MC
rnd 11: …k1 MC, k5 CC, k MC
rnd 12: …k2 MC, k5 CC, k MC
rnd 13: …k3 MC, k5 CC, k MC
etc…
Then when it came to before the decreases I k CC from one symbol to the next symbol to connect them on each side for 5 rounds
exact pattern:
rnd1: k4 CC, k3, MC, k4 CC
rnd2: k11 CC
rnd3: k11 CC
rnd4: k1 MC, k9 CC, k1 MC
rnd5: k2 MC, k7 CC, k2 MC
rnd6: k3 MC, k5 CC, k3 MC
And then I knit one round all MC and then started my regular hat decreases
OCT 28
So far so good, I did a couple rounds in 6s just to make sure it’s a bit tight at the bottom, I tend to knit looser as I go on, especially with double knitting.
I’m hoping to have this finished by the end of November before Snowboarding season so he can have a nice toasty warm head :)
JAN 12
Okay time for a fresh start. I’m not using US 4s…lets see how this works out!
March 16
So it’s been awhile, but the pattern is going nicely. I ended up CO 70 stitches, it’s a bit tight for my boyfriend, and even me, but the inside looks perfect, so I switched the hand i want holding the yarn in so that the inside could match the outside.
It’s an odd hat to make, I’m kind of tired of Double knitting for awhile
March 23
I finished the hat, and then i frogged back to before the hat decreases because it was too small height-wise, so I’m going to start decreasing once I’ve gotten to the top of the two red lantern peaks

FINISHED.
nice and long. I thought I was never going to finish it.
