Notes

I’m crazy about the acorns! This made a super cute sweater that is nice for boys and girls.

Needles US 6 and 4 for body and 7 and 5 for working small sleeve circumferences in the round.

Sleeves were blousey-- a cute look for girls but did not suit a big boy’s sweater. To avoid this I dec sleeves this way: half of the decreases every four rows and remaining half of the decreases every eight rows. Circ of upper sleeve is 10.25”, lower sleeve at cuff is 7”. Sleeve length is 11.5” measured from underarm to cuff. I will take out ribbing, add 1.5” of pattern and then do rib. I want a 13” sleeve as he will wear this next fall when he is four.

Length from underarm to hem is 11.5. May add an inch or two as he is sure to grow before fall. So before I pack this away this summer I’ll add length to both body and sleeves.

The neck was too wide. I cinched it in at the back of the neckline with a thread of yarn. If I were to make it again, I would CO less sts and add the sts back before making the acorns.

Another tiny mod: the sleeve and body hem has 2/2 ribbing, the neck has 1/1 ribbing. I feel 2/2 ribbing brings it in a little more and that is what I wanted. I also decreased the last row before the body hem ribbing--I think about 6 sts--same reason, to bring it in.

It seems silly to make subtle mods for a child’s sweater, but his body has recently changed and is becoming long and lean. With top down, it’s so easy to make little changes for fit.
