After you have cast off for the blanket, you will have to pick up stitches on the two long sides to make a border. For the border to lay nice and flat I found this ratio to work best: Pick up 4 stitches from every partial hexagon and 5 stitches for every full hexagon, plus ONE stitch at every garter connecting stripe.
